Burntisland Parish Church – Historic Building Update

Historic Fife Churches Facing Closure

Seven landmark places of worship, many dating back centuries, feared for their future as the Presbytery reviewed its property portfolio at a meeting on 17th June 2023 in Wellesley Church Centre, Methil. The recommendations of the report identified Burntisland Parish Church as one of the Churches that were Grade “A” listed and recommended for “disposal.”

What does this mean for us? Well, in the short term nothing! We will continue to hold our Services in our Church building whilst we look at the implications of the report. In the medium term, however, we have been asked to look at whether it is feasible for the formation of a local Trust to take on the building in the future.

Over the next few weeks, the Kirk Session will arrange for a meeting with Burntisland Heritage Trust, Burntisland Community Council , Burntisland Community and Development Trust, Fife Historic Buildings Trust, The Historic Churches Support Group and other interested parties to consider our next steps.

Although this news may be somewhat alarming, it could turn out to be a positive for the Church as it would encourage a more expanded use of the building, both as a historical and community asset.
